Algorithms and precise instructions

Explain an algorithm using an everyday example. Distinguish its inputs, steps and outputs, and discuss correctness.

Study · reference notes

Define the procedure

An algorithm is a precise procedure for solving a problem. Its instructions must make the intended operations clear.

Connect inputs and outputs

An algorithm can take inputs, transform them through defined operations, and produce an output. Pseudocode expresses these operations without requiring one programming language.

Explain correctness

Correctness concerns whether the procedure produces the required result for the allowed inputs. Speed alone does not establish correctness.
